City walk along the Berlin Wall

Along the Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall – no other building that is stronger connected to the younger German history. During the separation of Germany between 1961 and 1989 it served as the border fortification between East and West Germany on a length of nearly 160km. The Western part of Berlin was isolated from the rest of the city and the surrounding GDR by the wall.

During this HEP city walk you will learn everything about the Berlin Wall. Find out how people had to leave there flats to make space for building the wall, how they tried to escape last minute to the West and how even frontier soldiers weren’t comfortable with the whole situation.

Along the former German-German border you will also pass old escape tunnels that all tell their own tragic story. The tour ends at the Berlin Wall memorial.
